Saravá! Carol Evans & Friends Bossa Nova & Brazilian Jazz

Saravá! is Tucson’s very own bossa nova band, led by Carol Evans.

Carol moved to Brazil at the age of eight and soon became “Brasileira de Coração,” or Brazilian at Heart. Growing up in Rio de Janeiro and studying guitar from the age of eleven, Carol went on to study classical and jazz guitar at the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston. Carol moved to Tucson with her husband and two sons over 20 years ago, and has continued to sing and play Brazilian bossa nova, with an ever-expanding repertoire of over 100 songs. She is an avid student of the history of bossa nova, and brings this rich context to her performances, often providing translations and background of the songs she sings, and always happy to answer questions and discuss this style of Brazilian music at greater length.

Carol is frequently joined by Bill Ronstadt on bass, as well as other musicians playing flute, saxophone and Brazilian-style percussion. These musical souls have found each other in the rhythms and harmonies of Brazilian jazz and bossa nova. Whether performing as a solo act, or with bass, flute and a back-up ensemble of tasteful percussion, this band is bound to quickly transport you to a warm, sunny beach where all your cares will soon melt away!
